Stafford Municipal School District has opened its STEM Magnet Academy, part of its $62 million bond program that passed in November 2017.
The $2.8 million school’s program focuses on medical technology, coding and robotics. It currently accommodates nearly 200 students in third through eighth grades but will later expand admission up to grade 12.
The facility spans nearly 67,000 square feet and includes two science rooms, a medical and coding lab, a gaming room, a robotics lab, a reading room, several breakout areas, and a learning staircase where teachers can combine students from different classrooms.
Located at 200 Stafford Pride within the district’s campus, the academy is the only one of its kind in Fort Bend County, said Houston-based Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam Inc. LAN is serving as the program manager for the bond program.
