LAN Appoints Mario Chapa as Regional Water/Wastewater Practice Lead

Mario Chapa, P.E., joins planning, engineering and program management firm Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN) as a regional water/wastewater practice lead.
In this role, he will be responsible for building client relationships and expanding the firm’s water and wastewater practice in Houston, ensuring the design quality of the firm’s water and wastewater projects, and mentoring the engineers in the region.
Chapa has more than 20 years of experience designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining water and wastewater treatment plants. His water and wastewater experience spans municipalities, industrial parks, land developments, food and automotive industries, and universities. Previously, he served one of America’s largest investor-owned utilities as a state engineer where he managed large capital investment programs, implemented a company-wide GIS system, and supported operations. Prior to that, he owned an engineering, procurement and construction firm for 16 years.
During his career, he has designed and managed several water and wastewater facilities. Some of his notable projects include the Pine Trails Wastewater Treatment Plant replacement and Greenwood Village Wastewater Treatment Plant in Houston, El Creston Wastewater Treatment Plant in Mazatlan, Mexico, and the Township Wastewater Treatment Plant in Monterrey, Mexico.
Chapa holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering and environmental engineering/mechanical engineering from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Mexico. He also holds a Master of Business Administration in quality and technology management from Sophia University, Japan. He is a licensed professional engineer in Texas and Mexico.
