Getting around Westchase is getting easier.

Just outside Beltway 8 at the northern end of the Westchase District, new sidewalks and dedicated bike lanes are part of the recently reconstructed Deerwood Road, which helps connect riders to trails at Terry Hershey Park along Buffalo Bayou.

South of Briar Forest, new eight-foot wide sidewalks along CityWest Boulevard make it easier for workers at office buildings that house companies such as Phillips 66, BMC Software and Equinor to walk to restaurants. The new CityWest – Deerwood side path reflects improvements from Westheimer to the south, through the Walnut Bend community to Deerwood Road on the north.

“That path is near some of the major corporations in the Westchase District, so it enlivens the area,” said Ricky Gonzalez, associate and team leader, Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, the engineering firm for several projects in the Westchase District. “Their employees can also benefit and have been using it since it’s been upgraded.”
