McGhee Elementary, Channelview ISD’s newest campus, opened its doors to scholars and faculty for their first day of school on Monday. Last week, the ribbon cutting ceremony for the school also took place.
The elementary school holds significant historical value within the Channelview community. The campus houses a museum that honors the legacy and history of the original school built around 1916. The one-room building served African American students in the Channelview area during that time.
The new campus also includes a safety vestibule, bullet-resistant windows and locking mechanisms on every classroom door to ensure safety for students and administrators. The school also includes collaboration spaces, a treehouse in its library, and a gym equipped with a Lu Interactive system.
We believe it is quite a privilege to witness the benefits of the 2019 Channelview ISD bond in motion.
