Tomball ISD board members and community members gathered Friday to celebrate the opening of the district’s newest school, Grand Lakes Junior High.
The new school, located at 20247 Cypress Rosehill Rd, will serve seventh and eighth graders in the district and is one of the new facilities funded through the district’s 2017 bond.
“In Tomball ISD, we believe we are not just a district, but a destination,” Tomball ISD Superintendent Martha Salazar-Zamora said. “Our community shares so much passion for education and understands the importance of investing in the future. The children are our future, and we know growth as a district is also a big part of what is happening in Tomball ISD.”
Salazar-Zamora said the ribbon cutting ceremony was a tangible reminder of the district’s vision that Tomball ISD students will help in creating the future, and that the vision is possible because of a commitment to high quality teaching and learning.
The $43.26 million junior high is 228,346 square feet in size, and will hold 1,645 students in its 60 classrooms, along with 12 labs, two gyms and fine arts and dance studios, according to a Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. press release, the firm serving as the program manager.
