Sheldon Independent School District (Sheldon ISD) announces several significant milestones achieved through its 2022 Bond Program, marking a transformative era for the district amid ongoing enrollment growth.

On Aug. 22, the district celebrated the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Cravens Early Childhood Academy, where more than 13,000 square feet have been added. This expansion includes six new classrooms designed with thematic concepts that promote hands-on learning experiences, enhancing early childhood education for the growing number of young students along with 2 Special Education Classrooms as well.

On Sept. 19, Sheldon ISD held a ribbon-cutting event for the new two-story addition at Michael Null Middle School. The expansion features approximately 43,000 square feet and 20 new classrooms. The ceremony was highlighted by performances from the Null band, choir and dance team. Over 100 community members were in attendance.

Additionally, on Sept. 24, Sheldon ISD broke ground on a new ninth and tenth-grade campus set to open in the 2026-27 school year. Located adjacent to C.E. King High School, this facility will accommodate approximately 2,500 students, allowing the district to continue meeting the needs of its rapidly increasing enrollment, which has exceeded 11,000 students this fall.

As the program manager for the 2022 Bond, Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN) is managing these projects to ensure they are delivered on schedule and within budget. Additional projects within the program include upgrades to safety and security upgrades which include districtwide exterior fencing replacement and the installation of entry resistant file in exterior windows at entrances per new TEA Guidelines. Plus, the acquisition of new buses equipped with GPS tracking and enhancements to classroom technology, which include the districtwide replacement of all existing classroom monitors. These initiatives support the district’s ongoing development and ensure a superior educational experience for all students.

“These projects reflect our commitment to providing quality education and modern facilities to our growing enrollment,” said Michael Scott, LAN program manager. “We are grateful for the support of our community and look forward to seeing these new spaces enhance learning opportunities for our students.”

Sheldon ISD has experienced significant growth, with student enrollment increasing by more than 10 percent over the past five years. The district’s proactive approach to facility expansion underscores its dedication to fostering an enriching educational environment.
