Vadose Recharge Wells – City of Surprise

Surprise Arizona

LAN performed the multi-phase Recharge Well Design and Installation project, which consists of an initial hydrogeologic investigation and evaluation, project permitting, and design of delivery pipelines, booster station modifications, filter systems, wells, instrumentation, and a SCADA control system. This project provides design and construction support to install 52 recharge wells for recharge and underground storage of reclaimed water supplies at two locations in the City.

Vadose zone recharge wells and associated facilities, including reclaimed delivery pipelines and filters, were designed and constructed at two separate locations served by reclaimed water supplies from the South Water Reclamation Plant (WRP). The Surprise Municipal Center facility has an estimated recharge capacity of 5-MGD requiring approximately 12 vadose zone recharge wells, and the Surprise South Reclamation Plant recharges an estimated 10-MGD with approximately 24 vadose zone recharge wells. Each well site consists of an underground vault containing a well level transmitter, pressure transmitter, flow meter, motor operated valve, vault flood alarm sensor, and intrusion alarm sensor.
