Harris County Department of Education – School Bond Program Management

Harris County Texas

Harris County Department of Education (HCDE) selected LAN to provide program management services for their 2020 $36 million Bond Program. LAN is managing every aspect from facility condition assessment through planning, design, construction, and warranty follow-up for two significant projects, including the new Adult Education facility and new Highpoint Middle School.

The 51,000 SF Adult Education facility includes classrooms, laboratories, and office space with a 43,000 SF parking garage. The new facility will replace an aged group of buildings and provide a unified campus much like a community college. The goal of HCDE the Adult Education project is to expand the offering of courses to an under-served student population; those with little means wanting to expand their language skills, become citizens, complete their GED, or develop new job skills.

The new 28,000 SF Highpoint Middle School will replace an older facility that can no longer be expanded to accommodate an HCDE’s increased student population. Highpoint Middle school offers a higher degree of safety, monitoring, and discipline. The new facility will incorporate design elements supporting a modern 21-st century learning environment and energy efficiency.

The project will be completed with phased construction so that the construction does not disrupt HCDE administrative operations.
