Galveston Ferry Maintenance Building Renovation – TxDOT

Galveston TX

LAN performed services to rehabilitate a TxDOT Maintenance Building serving the ferry system at the Galveston ferry terminal. The maintenance facility serves a fleet of six ferries with 24-hour operations. Each ferry can carry approximately 500 passengers and 70 vehicles. When the sixth ferry was added to the fleet, TxDOT recognized the need to re-design the facility to expand and enhance maintenance capabilities and operations.

The renovation project included a 20,000 SF modification to the existing Ferry Maintenance building and addition of a third fish cleaning station. LAN’s scope of work included replacing all external envelope components; enclosing interior space to create offices and conditioned electronics storage; adding ventilation for welding and painting operations; and replacing all high-bay lighting. The project also included a full analysis of the existing site electrical system to meet current requirements for arc flash protection. All work was without interrupting continuing maintenance operations.
