FM 1314 Subsurface Utility Engineering and Utility Coordination – Texas Department of Transportation

Montgomery County Texas

LAN is currently performing subsurface utility engineering (SUE) and utility coordination services to support the expansion of FM 1314 from SH 242 to McQueen Rd, widening and realigning the 5-lane roadway from 2-foot shoulders to 10-foot shoulders along with the addition of a 6-foot sidewalk, 10-foot shared use path and storm sewer systems on both sides of the road.

The SUE investigations included utility record research, validation with survey and above ground indicators, and confirming with utility owners and operators. 10+ utility owners were identified through this process, all of which have conflicts with the proposed construction. Coordination with every utility owner including joint conversations with multiple utility owners at once were strategically held to foster open dialogue between all parties involved and to communicate the needs of TxDOT to those affected. Relocation and adjustment plans were drafted by utility companies and reviewed by LAN before they applied for permits to move forward. A construction management plan was created by TxDOT with LAN’s assistance to make the letting date and allow all utilities to relocate without any delays in construction. This project demonstrates LAN’s capabilities in coordinating the relocation of nearly 10 miles of utility lines while navigating the different needs of a dozen stakeholders.
