Dacy Lane Phase 1 – Hays County
Hays County Texas
Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN) designed this project to convert the substandard roadway from a two-lane rural section to an urban four-lane curb and gutter section with storm drains. The project included sidewalks, signage, water and wastewater utility relocations. LAN performed all roadway design, bridge design, drainage analysis and design, utility design and right-of-way acquisition for this approximately 2-mile project.
LAN used HEC-RAS for the bridge crossing and performed scour analysis and a floodplain impact assessment. HEC-HMS was used for all hydrologic calculations. WinStorm was used for the proposed storm drain system, which maximized the capacity of the road to minimize right-of-way acquisition. Widening of the roadway was done to allow for projected increased traffic volumes associated with the large commercial development which included Seton Hospital along the west side of the roadway. The road profile was revised to improve safety due to limited sight distance near key intersections. LAN’s preliminary analysis of the roadway’s alignment also assessed the best use of the existing right-of-way. Our design was focused on meeting the design speed while minimizing the need for acquisition of additional right-of-way. LAN provided real property acquisition services for 21 parcels.
