Arc Flash Studies – Texas Department of Transportation

Statewide Texas

LAN performed a comprehensive 2-year Arc Flash Study Program for more than 2,700 TxDOT facilities located in 250 of the 254 counties across the state of Texas. The project’s scope of work includes a comprehensive Arc Flash Study and analysis of the primary electrical service and distribution system for the facilities which had an average age of 32 years. As part of this project, LAN provided reports of findings and recommendations for corrective actions necessary to bring the facilities into compliance with current OSHA, NFPA, and NEC standards.

LAN’s teams reviewed record drawings to gain an understanding of the existing electrical system and performed site visits to verify conditions at each site. LAN developed electrical models using SKM Power Tools Software for each facility, which included arc flash input data and system fault current one-line diagrams and arc flash evaluation tables. LAN provided labels to identify arc flash hazard incident energy, shock protection boundaries, and PPE required for work on energized equipment.
