Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District plans to break ground on two new school buildings next month.
The nearly 24,000-student school district plans to build an agricultural science center and a technology center in Baytown, southeast of Houston. The educational facilities are some of the last projects in the district’s four-year, $267 million school bond program, passed by local voters in May 2013.
The new ag facility will sit on a 15-acre site where the former ag facility was located. An existing 5,430-square-foot barn will be converted into classroom space, and the district plans to build a nearly 21,000-square-foot facility with animal pens and a show ring, where students can raise farm animals, like cows, sheep and hogs. About 350 high schoo students participate in Goose Creek CISD’s ag science program, where they learn how to acquire, showcase and care for these animals, including administering vaccinations and medical treatments. The ag center is expected to break ground in May.
