ENR Names 72-Inch Stonehill Waterline Project as a 2022 Best Project
By Shannon Adkison
ENR Texas & Louisiana is pleased to announce the winners of its 2022 Best Projects competition!
After a month of hard work, an independent panel of experts from all corners of the AEC industry reviewed a total of 94 projects and selected 17 Best Projects and 17 Awards of Merit across 18 categories. As always, to avoid conflicts of interest, our judges did not score any categories in which their firms submitted entries, and if they had any involvement with a project, they abstained from scoring.
ENR named the Upper Trinity Regional Water District (UTRWD) Stonehill Waterline Project as the 2022 Best Project Winner in the water category for Texas and Louisiana. LAN was a subconsultant to Plummer. At the commissioning ceremony, UTRWD claimed that they had never had a project run more smoothly, which attests to the partnership with LAN, Plummer and the contractor (Archer Western).
The project included 18,300 LF of 72-inch steel waterline from the Tom Taylor Regional Water Treatment Plant to the Stonehill Pump Station to meet future flow requirements due to accelerated growth in the service area. The pipeline parallels an existing 48-inch waterline and includes 11 tunnels crossing under a business parking lot, three railroads, six major roadways including IH-35E, and two private properties.
LAN was responsible for the technical design of tunnels, 36 to 72 inches of butterfly valves, vertical drop shafts, tee fittings and coordinating permitting with KCS, DART and TxDOT. LAN also performed cathodic protection design, soil resistivity testing, and corrosivity assessment which included stray current analysis and protection of the existing parallel 48-inch pipeline which was to remain in service.
