“B” Better Conference
On November 29th, Mackrena Ramos served as a break out session speaker at this year’s “B” Better Conference in Houston, organized by Houston City Council Member, Jerry Davis. She was joined by LAN President, Dennis Petersen, along with Abby Stanhouse, Dr. Michael Liga, and Alan Lewis, who met with groups of middle school students from five different schools and spoke to them about topics like what it means to be a water conveyance engineer, what the City of Houston water system is like, and what the typical schooling required is to get into the field.
Michael provided a demo to show how to filter water, similar to the filtration system in a water/wastewater treatment plant, and Alan gave a demo that modeled the hydraulic system and how runoff can carry waste and sediment into a body of water.
“B” Better’s mission focuses on giving aspiring students in middle school and high school the unique opportunity to turn their career and life aspirations into reality. Their programs are innovative, safe, fun, empowering, and provide transformational experiences that enable students to:
-Discover their passion
-Explore a career
-Make a difference
-Realize their dreams
