LAN Earns Three ACEC Texas 2026 Engineering Excellence Awards

LAN continues to demonstrate the strength of our multidisciplinary teams, earning three achievements for the ACEC Texas 2026 Engineering Excellence Awards.

These awards honor projects that show outstanding innovation, technical achievement, and impact in Texas. This year, LAN received two Gold Medals and one Silver Medal for our work.

Gold Medal – Energy
UTMB M61 Boiler Addition
Client: University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston

The M61 building serves as UTMB’s central utility plant, providing high-pressure steam for essential hospital functions including sterilization of surgical instruments and medical waste, heating, hot water, laundry services, kitchen operations, and humidification for controlled environments. The existing facility operated three dual-fuel Unilux water-tube boilers installed around 2014, each with a capacity of 10,400-12,000 lb/h, which could no longer meet current and future campus demands.

Gold Medal – Special Projects
Southwest Pump Station Secondary Refill Line
Client: Houston Public Works

The Southwest Pump Station (SWPS) serves as a cornerstone of Houston’s water distribution system, supplying potable water to approximately one-third of the city’s 2.4 million residents. The pump station’s service area includes critical facilities such as the Texas Medical Center, Energy Corridor, Greenwood Plaza, NRG Park and Stadium, and extends to local cities and water partners including the North Fort Bend Water Authority.

Silver Medal – Water Resources
Lebow Channel at NE 28th Street Drainage
Client: City of Fort Worth

The project involved the detailed design and construction oversight of approximately 1,500 linear feet of natural stream improvements for Segments L3 and L4 of the Lebow Channel, specifically around the NE 28th Street bridge near Decatur Avenue. The design began in 2021 following completion of the conceptual phase, with construction completed in early 2024.

We’re honored to deliver infrastructure that strengthens communities. Thank you to our clients, partners, and teams who make projects like these possible.
