Sacramento RT’s Blue Line Extension on Track to Connect the Region

The “South Sacramento Corridor” – the area east of the Sacramento River and south of the Downtown Sacramento within Sacramento County – is one of the fastest-growing urban areas in the State of California and the nation. According to the U.S. Census, the Sacramento consolidated metropolitan statistical area population grew from 1.5 million to 1.8 million, a 21 percent increase between 1990 and 2000. With robust employment opportunities in communities such as the City of Elk Grove, the Census projected this growth in the area to be even faster between 2000 and 2025.
