The rebirth of Camp Strake is the promised bringer of economic expansion in Conroe, Texas, north of Houston. But before the massive development project, also known as Grand Central Park, can emerge, Conroe has to take care of some utility business in the building of a new wastewater treatment facility.
"Without this new plant, that development could not happen, " said Bill Schlafer, project manager at Houston-based Lockwood Andrews & Newnam Inc., the firm that the city of Conroe contracted to design the new 37-acre, $55 million wastewater treatment plant. "(The new plant) has the potential from an economic standpoint to really jumpstart things."
